Hello! I interrupt the regular broadcast of website explainers to tell you about a little something I’m working on:
I’m making a web directory where you can look up creators, service providers, and small businesses who work without AI generated content. (Specifically, I mean artwork and creative writing.)
Why do this?
I’ve seen enough of the damage done by AI to creative industries. I’ve also seen there is indeed demand for designers and artists who don’t use it.
“Can someone find me a book cover designer who works without AI?”
This is the directory you’ll be able to find them in.
When can people join?
I’m still in the process of setting up my AI-free web directory.
Paid client work takes priority, because that pays my bills, unfortunately.
The fully automated luxury space communism is far from my gasp.
Having said that, following me on social media (YouTube, Threads, Instagram, Facebook) or subscribing to my newsletter is a good way to keep informed about what I’m up to.
Will there be exceptions to “no AI”?
Yeah. Well, sort of. It’s very tricky to say “I’m against AI in all forms” because everyone means something very different.
For me, the spirit of this web directory is about protecting original art and writing. For me, personally, AI-generated art and writing is not acceptable. Especially when you’re asking the LLM to “create in the style of [specific person].”
Using AI to reorganise data or do repetitive scientific tests, for instance, is what I personally consider an acceptable use. In this case, you’re leveraging it to shortcut something that would otherwise be tedious. However, I believe any and all of that should be carefully done with human oversight, and not blindly accepted as-is.
Bottom line: Using AI to replace creative work is what I’m mad about. So this is what this directory will sort out for me.
